The Akai s612 is a 12 bit, 6 voice sampler from the mid 80’s. it features a static, non resonant filter, one shot, forward, reverse and back and forth looping, sliders for start and end points, an LFO for pitch modulation and variable sample rates. As feature sets go, that’s not too impressive, it’s appeal these days comes from the sounds it can make.
Being 12-bit obviously gives it a grainer character than we are used to with modern samplers, this makes it great for glitchy pads and loops and anything you want to sound lof-fi. It can also do wonderful things to bass sounds, making them deeper and fatter.
